Celebrating Pride at Home

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month and will continue to be celebrated across the country, likely with many more virtual opportunities given the circumstances we find ourselves in at this time. Due to the ongoing public health concerns regarding COVID-19, the Great Lakes Bay Pride planning team has reimagined Pride Month celebrations again for 2021.

In lieu of the more traditional festival and after party, we’re instead focusing on Celebrating Pride at Home this year! Over the last few months, the regional Great Lakes Bay Pride planning team has been working on new ideas to foster connections and build community.

We can't wait to bring back the festival and after party in 2022!

Last year, we featured some incredible local talent at Great Lakes Bay Pride and we want to do that again this year! If you are a local musician interested in supporting our LGBTQ+ community by performing at Pride Festival, please email us at pride@perceptionsmi.org.

Webinar with Michelle Brown

The new administration in Washington talks about “Building Back Better” but for the LGBTQ+ community, our goal is to go back beyond the “good old days” of the Obama Administration when we saw many doors open but to look at the past not just to the rights denied but the struggles of past generations and the persistence/resilience to stand for equality and build a community that has been our strength by capturing/sharing our stories.

One word to describe public speaker, author, and activist Michelle Elizabeth Brown is FORCE. For decades, through her career, creative endeavors, and volunteer work, she has used her strength to assist, inspire, and move people and organizations to be the best they can be. Mixed with her desire to help others also finds her dedication to uplifting those often left on the fringe of society: women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, for example.

What We Do

Great Lakes Bay Pride initiatives promote unity and visibility among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals, and our allies throughout the community. Our programs bring together many community service providers with the shared goal of offering services and support to the LGBTQ+ community.

Our volunteer Board of Directors and Pride Events Planning Team are comprised of diverse, regional representatives who give of their time and talents to further our mission to provide inclusive sexual orientation and gender identity/expression (SOGIE) education, advocacy, networking, and resources to individuals and organizations in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
